Young People Driving Change: A Look Back at the Recent Social Actions of the VIJANA WETU Project

In a context marked by numerous social, economic and psychological challenges, the young people of the VIJANA WETU Project, supported by The Congo Tree, continue to prove that change is possible when youth take the lead.
Over the past weeks, several social actions have been carried out in Goma and surrounding areas, illustrating the determination of these young people to build more resilient, united and hopeful communities.

Strengthening Resilience through Peace and Psychological Support

Among the most notable actions, young people organised a Circle of Reflection on Peace and Resilience at the University of Goma, Lac Vert Campus.
The activity brought together around fifty students in focus group discussions and group therapy sessions facilitated by psychologists.
The goal was to help young people strengthen their inner resilience and develop coping mechanisms to face the realities of life in the region.

Supporting the Education of Vulnerable Children

In Mugunga, a peripheral neighbourhood of Goma, young people carried out an impactful social action at the GALC literacy centre.
They provided the children with essential school materials and led an awareness session on peace and personal hygiene.
More than 160 children benefited from this initiative, which aims to promote access to inclusive and quality education while encouraging peaceful coexistence in schools.

Supporting Families to Prevent Child Vulnerability

Recognising that family hardship often fuels the issue of children living on the streets, young people launched an economic empowerment initiative to support 15 vulnerable families.

Through both financial and technical assistance, these families were able to start small income-generating activities, improving their living conditions and ensuring a better future for their children.
This initiative perfectly embodies the spirit of the project — addressing the root causes of social issues through sustainable solutions.

Young People as Role Models

Through these different actions, the young participants have become true solution-makers within their communities.
Together, they have reached over 220 direct beneficiaries, planting seeds of change, peace and solidarity.
These initiatives highlight the strength of youth leadership and their unwavering commitment to bringing concrete solutions to the challenges faced by their peers.

A Lasting Impact that Inspires

The social actions of this quarter reflect The Congo Tree’s vision — to inspire, equip and support young people to become proactive agents of transformation in their communities.
These young people are no longer just dreaming of change — they are building it, step by step, through concrete actions that inspire hope.
